SME note · capture
A site that actually captures demand
Most SME sites do not fail for lack of AI. They fail because the frequent question is unwritten, the form lands in a mailbox nobody watches, and nobody knows which page converts.
The 2026 reflex is a chat in the corner. The visitor types “do you ship to the Canary Islands?” and gets a vague smile. That is not capture. That is a review in transit. Intelligent capture is more boring and more profitable.
We treat the site as a demand process: question, answer, contact detail, follow-up. AI enters when that process exists, not to paper over it.
What actually converts (before the robot)
- An offer in one sentence on the first screen, with sector and area if they matter.
- A FAQ with the twenty real questions — the ones from the phone, not the marketing ones.
- A short form (name, company, need, phone) that lands in a queue, not only a mailbox.
- A response time you state and keep. “We write within 24 h” is an offer. Missing it is worse than not saying it.
- A page per service or sector if that is how search looks for you. Not fifteen empty pages.
Where an assistant truly helps
It helps when it cites the FAQ and, if it does not know, offers the form or a human. It helps with hours, lead times, documents for a quote, or routing the visitor to the right page.
It gets in the way when it negotiates price, promises lead times that are not in the source, or invents availability “so we do not lose the lead”. Visitors prefer an honest form to a hallucinating chat.
Measurement that is not theatre
Measure form submits, calls generated, time to first human contact, and the share of leads complete enough to quote. Do not measure only visits or “bot messages”. A chatted bot that leaves no phone number is entertainment.
If you cannot say which page brought the last three customers, you do not need a model. You need basic analytics and UTMs. AI does not fix a site with no trail.
Privacy in capture
The form is a data processing. Legal basis, short copy, who receives the lead, how long you keep it. If the chat stores conversations at a third-party vendor, that is a processor too. “It is only a widget” does not exempt you.
Do not ask for an ID number on first contact. Do not record the chat “for training” without telling anyone. Minimise: name, company and need usually suffice for an assessment.
Fit with Kit Digital
Website and advanced presence, commerce if you sell online, customer management if the lead enters a CRM. AI is a line inside those categories, not a photo extra. The justifiable deliverable is an operable site plus capture the team actually answers.
A four-week order
Week 1: inventory questions and leaks (form, WhatsApp, phone). Week 2: rewrite offer, FAQ and form. Week 3: measurement and queue. Week 4: only then, if repeated questions justify it, an assistant that cites the FAQ.
Jumping to week 4 is the expensive error. The bot does not invent an offer you have not written.
Copy that converts without empty adjectives
Replace “innovative solutions for your business” with the service, the area and the lead time. “Kit Consulting advisory and Kit Digital digitisation for SMEs across Spain. Assessment in 24–48 h.” The adjective does not rank. The concrete sentence does, and a busy manager understands it.
Each service or sector people search for deserves its own H1 and one proof (a case, a number, or at least the deliverable). Fifteen 80-word pages with the same paragraph is not an SEO strategy. It is a duplicate.
Intelligent capture starts in that prose. The assistant, if it arrives, only recites what is already written. If it is not written, it will invent. That is why the bot waits until week 4.
Analytics mistakes that hide a dead site
Counting sessions and not forms. Having a “bot click” event and not a phone number left. Mixing brand traffic with service traffic and celebrating the total. Blocking cookies and then saying “there is no demand”.
Before the assistant, fix the trail. A week of leads with source (organic, campaign, direct, referral) tells you more than any heatmap. If the source is “direct” because the UTM fell off, that is also a capture fix.
Frequently asked questions
Does a chat raise SEO?
Not by existing. Useful pages rank (offer, FAQ, service pages). A widget is not a ranking page.
Can we just put WhatsApp?
WhatsApp with no queue is another mailbox. If you use it, land it in the same place as the form, with the same response time.
How many form fields?
The minimum to quote. Each extra field is a lost lead. The rest is for the call.
